How the Lighter Referral Program Works — Fee Kickbacks & 10% Discount
Table of Contents
Looking for the code itself and the fastest way to apply it? That lives on our Lighter referral code page. This guide is the other half: what the program actually pays, and under what conditions. Every figure below is quoted from Lighter's own referral documentation, read on 26 October 2026. Lighter can change any of it, so check the source before you act on it.
Warning
Update, 26 October 2026. Lighter rewrote its referral page since our last read on 14 August. Referred users now get a 10% discount on the fees they pay, rebated weekly from sign-up. The $10M volume cap that used to sit on the referred user's rebate is gone, and the Gold (30%) referrer tier is no longer listed. This guide now follows the current page.
Correction, 14 August 2026. Before that, this page described Lighter's referral as points-based: a "sign-up points boost" for the new user and a 5%-to-15% share of their points for the referrer. The fee program pays kickbacks on trading fees, not points, and applies to referrals made on or after 28 July 2026.
Lighter's referral code on this site is LIGHTERPEDIA (link: app.lighter.xyz/?referral=LIGHTERPEDIA). Per Lighter's docs, the referred user gets 10% off the trading fees they pay, rebated every Monday; the referrer earns 10% or 20% of the gross fees their referred users pay, by tier. Lighter calls all rebates discretionary. Regular orders on a standard account cost 0% maker and 0% taker with or without a code.
Why does the referral discount rarely matter?
On most exchanges a referral code saves you money by cutting your trading fees. Lighter's version is technically a discount too, but most of the time it has nothing to work on, because regular orders on a standard account pay 0% maker and 0% taker.
Lighter's referral page opens by saying so: "Lighter remains free to trade for most users. This referral program rewards you for referring traders who choose a paid account type, letting you earn a share of the fees they pay."
Fees do turn up in two places. Premium/Advanced accounts pay maker and taker fees on every fill, and per Lighter's trading fees page a standard account pays 1 bp (0.01%) on TWAP, advanced orders and RFQ. The referral page says fees paid for advanced order types on a standard account count too. Those are the only fees the 10% discount touches. If you trade plain market and limit orders on a standard account, a code costs you nothing and gains you nothing. Our what is Lighter overview covers the exchange underneath.
Info
Be skeptical of anyone advertising a Lighter referral as big savings or a points boost on the main exchange. Regular trading is already free, and the fee program pays in rebates, not points. The one referral boost on points belongs to Lighter's separate Robinhood Chain points program, which is documented on its own page.
What does code LIGHTERPEDIA get you?
Signing up through the referral link app.lighter.xyz/?referral=LIGHTERPEDIA applies code LIGHTERPEDIA at account creation. Per Lighter's documentation:
- You are prompted to take a 10% discount on the fees you pay, rebated to you every Monday.
- The discount starts at sign-up, when the referral code is used.
- The page's intro also says referred users get their first week of Premium/Advanced fees rebated.
- It applies on all of Lighter's markets: perps, spot and binary options.
- Trades placed through Lighter's partner attribution program with a non-zero integrator fee don't count.
- Attribution is permanent: Lighter says a referral code cannot be changed or added after sign-up.
To use it, open the Lighter app through the referral link and connect your wallet. From there, follow our connect wallet and deposit USDC guide to fund the account and start trading.

Start Trading on LighterPoints Are a Separate Program
The fee referral and points are separate programs. Mixing them up is the mistake this page used to make.
Lighter's programs index now lists one points program, Lighter on Robinhood Chain Points, with live points and a weekly drop every Friday. That page has its own referral boost: a referrer gets 10% of a referred trader's points, and the referred trader gets a 10% boost on weekly points. None of that changes the fee rebates above, and the fee referral page does not mention points. Our points program guide has the details.
Points are widely treated as the path to a future LIT distribution, but no token generation event date has been officially confirmed. Treat any specific airdrop timing or per-point value as an estimate, not a promise. The points and token hub tracks program updates.
Warning
Airdrop hype draws scams. There is no official "claim" portal, no presale, and no team member who will message you to "unlock" rewards. Verify every link against Lighter's own documentation.
The Referrer Kickback Tiers
If you refer others, Lighter pays you a percentage of the gross fees your referred users pay. The tiers, quoted from its documentation:
| Tier | Kickback | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 10% | Available to everyone |
| Silver | 20% | 15+ unique referrals, each active for 5+ days |
The conditions Lighter attaches:
- A referred user counts as active for 5+ days once they have traded on at least 5 separate days.
- Only users who signed up on or after 28 July 2026 count toward tier requirements.
- Tier upgrades are reviewed manually and applied weekly, on Mondays. A new rate applies to fees generated from the upgrade date onward and is not backdated. Lighter states that meeting the requirements makes you eligible, but upgrades are granted at its discretion.
- Rebates for both sides are paid weekly as L2 transfers, covering Monday 00:00 UTC to Sunday 23:59 UTC of the preceding week, with a $1 minimum.
- Wash trading, self-referrals and other attempts to game the program result in disqualification and forfeiture of pending rebates.
The referrer earns 10% (Bronze) or 20% (Silver) of the gross trading fees their referred users pay. Silver needs 15 unique referrals active 5+ days. Upgrades are reviewed on Mondays, are not retroactive, and Lighter grants them at its discretion. Because the kickback is on fees, it only pays when referred users trade something that carries a fee.
Is It Worth Using a Referral Code?
For most new users the honest answer is that it changes very little either way. You are joining an exchange where regular orders are free, and the documented benefit is 10% off fees. On a standard account that means 10% of the 1 bp charged on TWAP, advanced orders and RFQ. It is worth more if you plan to trade on Premium, where every fill carries a fee.
Using a code costs nothing and cannot raise what you pay. It also cannot be added later, so if you are going to use one it has to be at sign-up.
Two things worth keeping in view. Lighter describes every part of this program as discretionary and reserves the right to end it at any time, so treat it as a possibility rather than an entitlement. And this site earns a share of the fees referred users pay, which is a reason to read Lighter's own terms rather than take this page's word for it. For how the platform compares to the market leader, see Lighter vs Hyperliquid.
Tip
If you are optimizing for Lighter points rather than fees, the fee referral is the wrong lever. The Robinhood Chain points page bases points on volume, positions held and fees paid, with boosts for mobile trading, referrals and some markets. Post limit orders, hold real positions, and avoid churn.

The referral code used on this site is LIGHTERPEDIA, applied by signing up through the link https://app.lighter.xyz/?referral=LIGHTERPEDIA. Per Lighter's referral documentation, the referrer earns a percentage of the gross trading fees their referred users pay, and the referred user gets a 10% discount on the fees they pay, rebated every Monday from sign-up. Lighter describes all kickbacks and rebates as discretionary and says the program applies to referrals made on or after 28 July 2026.
Yes, but only on fees you actually pay. Regular orders on a standard Lighter account are 0% maker and 0% taker, so there is nothing to discount there. Lighter's documentation gives referred users 10% off the fees they do pay, which means Premium fees and the 1 bp a standard account pays on TWAP, advanced orders and RFQ. The discount is paid back as a weekly rebate.
Lighter documents two referrer tiers paying a share of the gross fees referred users pay: Bronze 10%, available to everyone, and Silver 20%, requiring 15 or more unique referrals each active for 5 or more days. A referral counts as active once that user has traded on at least 5 separate days. Lighter reviews tier upgrades manually on Mondays, does not apply them retroactively, and states that upgrades are granted at its discretion.
Per Lighter's documentation, joining through a referral link prompts you to take a 10% discount on the trading fees you pay, rebated to you every Monday starting at sign-up, and the same page says referred users get their first week of Premium/Advanced fees rebated. Lighter calls all rebates discretionary. Because regular standard-account orders are already free, the discount only matters on fees you would pay anyway.
Lighter says rebates for both referrers and referred users are paid weekly as L2 transfers, with each Monday's payout covering fees generated from Monday 00:00 UTC through Sunday 23:59 UTC of the preceding week, subject to a $1 minimum. Lighter also states it may modify, suspend, or terminate the program at any time.
